Description	:	Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 for Sumner S. Wells at the Layton funeral home, Rev. A. W. Johnson, pastor of the Minden Methodist church, being in charge. Special music was furnished by W. A. Talbert, Lois Johnson, Jeanette Davis, and K.O. Davis Jr., with Mrs. Paul Musgrave as pianist. Interment was in the Liberty cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Burchell, Wm. Shearer, Ernest Sinsel, O.B. Ream, Roy Saltzgaber and Ed Wommer. Sumner S. Wells was born in Granville, Massachusetts, November 20, 1858. he departed from this life on February 8, 1940 at the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 19 days. At an early age he with his parents came west locating at Tedwing, Minnesota. A few years later they left that place and came to Falls City, Nebraska where they located on a farm. July 30, 1881 he married Anna Sumstine. Two sons were born to this union. In the year 1885 he came to Kearney County, locating on a farm in Liberty township, which place has been his home through all these years. He gave much of his time to the carpenter trade, and assisted in building many homes in Kearney county and in the adjoining localities. Mr. Wells was a conscientious man, living his daily life in simplicity and in devotion to his home and family. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1913; also by three brothers and one sister. In death he leaves his two sons, Adrian C. of Elk Creek and Herschel H. of Kearney; also one sister, Mrs. Lilliam Giberson of Yuma, Colorado. He also leaves a niece, Miss Ida Atkinson, who was with him for many years and assisted in caring for him during his recent illness. Besides these he leaves other nieces and nephews, thirteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
