She was given special permission in high school to have Friday's off from school to be able to get all the housework done! Friday nights were fun times; pop-corn popping and singing to piano-playing or barn dances! … c1930 because of her asthma, Susan moved first to Grand Junction, CO to live with Ida & George DENSLOW for a few months and then on to Los Angeles, CA where she lived for ten years till they moved to Florida …" Susan PARKS wrote of Wm. F. PARKS "…he was a dairy farmer. He had 60 milk cows (back in the '20's) and hired 12 men to do the milking. His dairy barn was immaculate and quite modern and up to date for that era. The barn floors were cement and he scalded them each day for cleanliness. He had several huge Belgian horses that he used to transfer the milk each day from his Ashtabula farm down to highway #50. From there each day it was transported to Cleveland where it was packaged to sell to the customers. On the second floor of his dairy barn they had community dances each Friday night! …" His children remembered that he was stern & cold with them in their youth and only warmed up to them as they became adults and were able to help on the farm. Susan was granted a divorce from William F. PARKS in January 1919.
