Both Susan's birth date and her Christening record note her date of birth as being March 27, 1830, however, it was noted as being March 20, 1830 in her obituary. She was Christened on March 28, 1830, in the Landscheid Catholic Church of the Diocese of Trier. Both Susan's birth date and her Christening record note her date of birth as being March 27, 1830, however, it was noted as being March 20, 1830 in her obituary. Susan immigrated to the US in 1842 at the age of 13. Her siblings included Augustinus, Catharina, Wilhelmus, Heinricus, and Barbara. The family eventually settled in a predominantly German area of Wisconsin. She would marry Johannes Petrus (John Peter) Mockenhaupt and give birth to their only child, Christian E., while living in Wisconsin. The family would relocate to the Nebraska Territory and settle in the area of Plattsmouth sometime between 1856 and 1858, along with Christian and Barbara (Heinz) Mockenhaupt; Christian being the brother of John and Barbara being the sister of Susan. John Mockenhaupt passed away in 1860 in Plattsmouth. Susan would re-marry to John Erhart on May 12, 1861, at the St. John's Catholic Church located in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Their marriage was recorded as being the 10th marriage within the church. The Mockenhaupt's were instrumental in both the founding and in the construction of the church. The union between Susan and John Erhart produced four children: William (b. 1860 - d. 1909), Louisa (b. 1862), Anna (b. 1864) and Edward (b. 1875).
