Christian married Barbara Heinz who is the sister of Susan (Heinz) Mockenhaupt Erhart. The brothers, along with their wives and baby Christian E., relocated to the Nebraska Territory and settled in Plattsmouth sometime between the years 1856 and 1858 making them original pioneers. John Mockenhaupt died sometime after June of 1860. His wife Susan would later remarry to John Erhart.
