Murdock of Superior; two brothers, Gilbert LaBounty of Arapahoe, and Albert LaBounty of Farnam; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Carter of Lincoln, two grand children, and one great grand child. The funeral was held in Lincoln today at 10 a.m. and burail was in the Nelson cemetery (sic) at 3 p.m. today. The Carters built the house now occupied by Mrs. Ethel Clabaugh on East Fourth Street, more than fifty years ago and lived there continuously until they moved to Lincoln, except for a short time when they lived in Red Cloud where Mr. Carter was engaged in the abstract business. The two families - the Carters and the LaBountys were real pioneers here. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, January 4, 1940 Susan L. LaBounty was born in Iriquoy (sic) County, Illinois, near Gilman on March the 12th in the year of 1861. Here she lived as a girl and grew into womanhood. The family came west and arrived on March 11th, 1878 in Nuckolls County, Nebraska. On October 2nd she was married to Madison W. Carter in LaMars, Iowa. This was in 1884. Mr. and Mrs. Carter then established their home in Nelson, Nebraska, where they lived until 1912. For a period of three years they resided in Red Cloud, Nebraska, again returning to Nelson. Then in 1924 the family moved to University Place, Lincoln, Nebraska, where Mr. Carter died on September 29th, 1930. Mrs. Susan L. Carter was a member of the First Methodist Church uniting by letter on September 24, 1924, under the pastorate of Dr. A.J. Croft. Mrs. Carter was a member of the East Side Circle of the Ladies Aid Society. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Myrtle Chapter No. 94. She died after a lingering illness on January 2, 1940, in the assurance of the Christian faith as she had always lived. Mrs. Carter was the mother of four children: two sons, one dying in infancy, and the other being George L. who died September 24, 1933; and two daughters, Miss Iva of Fairbury, and Miss Bertha of Lincoln, Nebr. She leaves a twin sister, Mrs. L.M. Gharring of Nelson, a sister Mrs. W.H. Murdock of Superior; twin brothers, Albert LaBounty of Farnam, and Gilbert LaBounty of Arapahoe, Nebraska. There are two grand children, Mrs. Walter A. Harrald who was Jean Carter before her marriage, ad (sic) Miss Margaret Carter; and one great grand daughter, Barbara Jean Harrald.
