Her death was attributed to a blood clot going to the heart resulting from cancer treatments. (Mrs. Marty) Mitchell, 43, of 1210 Fairmeadows Road, died Tuesday afternoon, September 6th, at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center Emergency Room. Her death was attributed to a blood clot going to the heart resulting from cancer treatments. The family expresses their deep gratitude to the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center Emergency department for their compassionate and professional help as well as the community for their overwhelming outpouring of love and support during this time. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 10th, at the Center Street Baptist Church with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 6-8:00 P.M. on Friday with her family present at that time. Born on April 16th, 1962, in Marshalltown, she was the eldest daughter of Carroll D. and Dorothy (Heintz) Fisher. She graduated from the Garwin High School's Class of 1980. While in high school, she was employed at the Red Lantern Restaurant in Garwin and later worked with her parents at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, did child care in her home and returned to Rose Hill to become manager after her parents retirement in 1996. In May 2001, she was recipient of the SCI Cemetery Manager of the year for all of North America. She was very passionate of her career and in September of 2004 broke ground for the new Mitchell Family Funeral Home with her husband, son and daughter. They opened in February of 2005. On November 20th, 1993, she (and daughter Stephanie) were united in marriage to Marty Mitchell at the 1st Baptist Church in Marshalltown. They made their home at 1210 Fairmeadows Road. Susan was an active member of the Center Street Baptist Church where she served as AWANA leader and Sunday School teacher, children's church leader and nursery helper (she always loved children), the Board of the Iowa Cemetery Association, the Board of the Iowa River Hospice and the steering committee for the new hospice house, the Relay for Life. She will be greatly remembered for her love of God and family, her passion for funeral service (she was in the process of starting a memorial website for submitting recipes which would be done at the Taste of Home this fall), flowers, helping others, children, animals and reading. She will be greatly missed by her husband Marty, daughter Stephanie (Mrs. Curt) Balmer, son Myles, her mother Dorothy B. Fisher of rural Garwin, sister Jeanne K. Fisher of Milford, Iowa, her Pomeranian dog Sammy, parent-in-laws Dean and Mary Mitchell of Marshalltown, sister-in-law Marna Mitchell of Melbourne, Aunt and Uncle Eldo and Maxine Hagedorn of Gladbrook, Aunt Mary Etta Fisher of rural Garwin, numerous cousins and friends. She would be joined by her granddaughter Haley Sue in November and niece Grace this fall, coming from China. In death she has rejoined her father Carroll (who died Feb. 25th of this year), grandparents William Charles and Alice Heintz, Laurin and Velma Fisher, Aunt Gwendolyn Thompson and Uncle Gerald Fisher.
