Her death was not unexpected, yet the shock to the family and the loved ones who so tenderly cared for her in the last hours of her illness, was keenly felt, and a home is robbed of a loving wife and mother. Obit: Susan Melissa Stanford was born January 6, 1837, at Waterloo, Seneca county, N. Y. Her parents moved to Illinois when she was six years of age. She was married to Henry Loomis April 6, 1857, and resided at Lowell, Ill, where Mr. Loomis worked at the blacksmith trade until the war broke out. At the close of the war they moved onto a farm near Wenona, Ill., where they resided until 1872, when they moved to Dakota county and located on a farm west of Homer. She was the mother of nine children, four of whom with the sorrowing husband survive her - Mrs. Mattie E. Priest, Eugene H. Loomis, and Mrs. Etta P. Smith, all of Homer, and Mrs. Sadie J. Abbot, of Woodstock, Vt. Mrs. Loomis was a devoted christian woman, having united with the M E church in her girlhood. She was a kind and indulgent wife and mother, and the many acts of kindness and charity performed by her during her long resinence in the county will be cherished and remembered by the neighbors and friends of years gone. Hers was a life of many sorrows as well as joys and happiness. The loss of five children caused a heartache that time could not dispel. The funeral was held Thursday at 2 o'clock, Rev. J. H. Edge, pastor of the M E. Church, conducting the services. Interment was in the Grove cemetery west of Homer.
