Hartman was born at Holmes county, Ohio, on July 3, 1836 and died March 2, 1919, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Leeds near Larrabee. Ten days previous to her death she was taken to her bed with plastic paralysis. She became weaker and passed away on Sunday morning at three o'clock. She was married on November 11th, 1855 to Henry Jones at Elkhart County, Indiana. They came to Iowa to live in 1879, living near Fonda and Aurelia. Mr. Jones preceded her fourteen years. After her husband's death she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Geo. W. McCain, until five weeks previous to her illness, when she went to her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Leeds. There she ended her days in peace, dying without pain. To this union were born twelve children, seven daughters and five sons. Two daughters and one son having died in infancy, and two sons, D. M. and C. W. Jones in years 1916 and 1917. She leaves to mourn her loss two sons and five daughters. Her entire life was spend in usefulness to those about her. She was a true wife and a patient and loving mother, always willing to care for her ailing friends and give a word of comfort for the sad. She was a faithful member of the Dunkard church all through her life, following close in the footsteps of her Savior. Funeral services were held at the J. W. Leeds home March 4, 15 10:00 o'clock conducted by Rev. Ralston of Sheldon. Interment took place at Pleasant Hill cemetery.
