Description	:	Swain's birth name was "Sven Hansson." He was born at Torrahem, a farm in the village of Hosaby, in the parish of Mjällby, in Blekinge county, Sweden. Sometime circa 1852, he married Karna Christophersdotter. At the time they emigrated to America, on 23 Apr 1866, they had five children (a 6th had died in 1861).
