Starrett was born January 30, 1854 in Adams county, Ohio, and died Saturday, June 23, 1934 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T.J. Mooney, in Lincoln, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 24 days. His wife, one daughter and two sons preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing two sons and three daughters, Eugene Starrett of Sunrise, Wyo., Will Starrett of Flat Top, Wyo., Mrs. Mayme Mooney and Mrs. Lucy Hall of Lincoln, Nebr. and Mrs. Julia McGonagle of Aurora, Nebr.; also seven grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters, O.E. of Greeley, Colo., Ed of Clarks, Samuel B., and Mrs [Cora] Eckles of Central City, Martha of Wheatland, Wyo. and Ida of Sidney, Nebr. S.E. Starrett was a pioneer of this county, having come to Clarks about 1875. He was engaged for several years in the mercantile business there, and later moved to Palmer, where he conducted a general store and a hotel. For the past fifteen years he has resided at Flat Top, Wyo., where he was raising stock on a small scale, he and his sons having homesteaded three sections of land. Mr. Starrett was one of the "old wheel horses" in the Democratic ranks in Merrick county. A brief funeral service was held from the home of Mrs. Anna Douglas in Clarks on Monday, June 25th. Internment was in the Clarks cemetery.
