He was baptized in the Catholic Faith and lived in Butler until at the age of 15 he moved to Bourbon County, Kansas, with his mother and step-father. He was baptized in the Catholic Faith and lived in Butler until at the age of 15 he moved to Bourbon County, Kansas, with his mother and step-father. In later years he went to Nelson, Nebraska where he was united in marriage to Alida Himmelberg on March 6, 1888. To this union were born 5 children. They resided in Nebraska and Western Kansas until 1920 at which time they came to the Glasco Community. Mr. Birch was a kind and loving husband and father and will be sadly missed by his relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife and five children who were with him at the time of his death. They are Mrs. Alida Birch, Orville Birch, Sylvester Birch Jr., and Mrs. Roy Kelly of Glasco; Mrs. S.W. Chapman of Naches, Washington, and Mrs. M.E. Moede of Chicago, Ill. There are eight grandchildren. He is survived by three half sisters: Miss Anna Sweeny of Butler, Pa.; Mrs. Sadie Camel of Butler, Pa., Mrs. Ella Fredley of Pittsburg, Pa. Funeral services were held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church and interment was made in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Thursday, November 9, 1933.
