Mr. Birch suffered a heart attack at his home just before noon Friday. Mr. Birch was born to Sylvester Birch and Adelaide Himmelburg Birch on November 5, 1896, at Riverton, Nebr. He was baptized at St. Steavens' Church, near Lawrence, Nebr., at the age of two months. He moved to western Kansas about the year 1900, and resided in the Glasco area from the year 1920, undertaking farming as his lifetime occupation. He was a devout horseman and enjoyed going horseback riding with his grandchildren. On December 1, 1921, he united in marriage with Myrtle Studt at Beloit, Kansas. To this union two children, Merville, and Carol (Mrs. Duane Gehrke) were born. Preceded in death by his parents, Orville is survived by his widow, Myrtle of Glasco, and his son, Merville Birch of Salina; daughter, Mrs. Duane Gehrke, Glasco; sisters, Mrs. Margaret Moede, Red Cloud, Nebr., Mrs. Minnie Kelly, Glasco, Mrs. Elsie Chapman, Naches, Wash.; a brother, Sylvester Birch, Manhattan; and five granddaughters: Sharon and Kimberly Birch, Salina; and Debby, Darla and Cundia Gehrke of Glasco. Services were held at the Dean Funeral Home Monday, August 13, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Paul Rowoldt officiating. Pallbearers were Noble Spicher, Bob Chestnutt, Dan Ernsbarger, Roland Nothern, Leo Adkins, and Bob Beck. Interment was in Glasco cemetery.
