Description	:	Sylvester Layman was the first child of Jacob L Lahmon 1850 – 1918 and Rebecca Elizabeth Bair 1849 – 1926. His siblings were: Charles Lahmon 1870; William Layman 1872; Hannah Layman 1874; James "Jim" Leon Lahmon 1875 – 1950; Margarite Layman 1878 and Emily Layman 1880. Sept. 28,1893 was the wedding date for Cecelia and Sylvester Laymon. From this marriage 3 known babies were born: Edith E Lahmen 1899 – 1917; Ruby Lahmon 1907 and Mary M Lahmon 1910. Sept. 28,1893 was the wedding date for Cecelia and Sylvester Laymon. From this marriage 3 known babies were born: Edith E Lahmen 1899 – 1917; Ruby Lahmon 1907 and Mary M Lahmon 1910. From the 1895 Iowa State census it was learned the they were living in Patalation, Benton, Iowa. The 1900 census reveals that she was born in 1873, and she married Sylvester Layman in 1893, and Sylvester and Cecelia were living in Cono, Iowa, Iowa. They had bought a farm and house, but they required a mortgage to finance it. In the 1910 census they owned their farm free from debt in Leroy, Benton, Iowa. Edith was school age, Ruby was a toddler and Mary was a baby. They had hired 20 year old Raymond Howard to help with the farm labor. In 1917, little 8 year old Edith passed away. No documentation has been found on the cause of her death. She is buried in the same cemetery as her parents were later buried. A special Iowa State Census in 1925 revealed that they had moved to Belle Plaine, Benton, Iowa. Also, on June 11, 1925 Ruby married Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Meyer. The 1940 census revealed that Sylvester and Cecelia were living in Belle Plaine, Benton, Iowa. They owned their farm and their home was valued at $1.500.00 They had completed the eight grade in elementary school and Mary was living at home. Sometime after the census was enumerated was a sad day for Cecelia. Her dear Sylvester had passed away. Cecelia chose a burial plot for the two of them near their daughter and his mother. A beautiful monument was erected for the two of them where they now "Rest in Peace." (bio by Audrey DeCamp Hoffman)
