Myerchin, 85, of Sioux City died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at his son's residence following a lengthy illness. Services will be 9 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Allen Reichs officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and a parish vigil at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Larkin Northside Chapel. Visitation will resume from 8:15 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Sylvester was born Dec. 10, 1920, in Alvarado, Minn., the son of Paul and Helen (Vanyo) Myerchin. He was raised in Alvarado and graduated from Alvarado High School in 1938. He joined the U.S. Army on Aug. 12, 1942, and served until Jan. 20, 1944. During the War, he served in the Pacific Theater. He came to Sioux City after the service. On Aug. 1, 1945, be married Susan Schumacher at St. Boniface Catholic Church. He was a salesman for Schoeneman Lumber for 36 years. After be retired from Schoeneman', he worked for Hawkeye Building Supply and Walensky Lumber Co. He served as president of the Siouxland Home Builders Association for two terms, 1955 to 1956 and 1962 to 1963. In 1999, he was awarded the Hall of Fame Award from the Home Builders Association. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and had served as an usher at the church for several years. He was a member of the Men's Club at the church and the American Legion. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Green Valley Golf Association. He is survived by his wife, Susan of Sioux City; a son, Greg of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Richard and Nicole Scott of Osceola, Iowa, and Angie and Kurt BelIger of Urbandale,Iowa; a son-in-law, Mark Scott of Sioux City; a sister, Blanche and Gordon Banerian of Milwaukee, WIS.; two great-grandchildren. KaitIyn and Payton Bellger; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jane Scott; a son, Paul; a grandson, Chad Scott; and three brothers, Daniel, Vincent and David.
