Description	:	Sylvester V. Uthe, 88, of Nevada, died Friday, February 16, 2007 at home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 20 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 19 at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. A Christian vigil service will follow visitation. Burial will be in the St. Patrick's Cemetery in Nevada. Sylvester was born September 27, 1918, at the home place northwest of Gilbert, to Frank Sr. and Martha (Elsner) Uthe. He attended a one-room school in rural Boone County and Gilbert High School. He married Lila N. Mortvedt on January 18, 1944 at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in rural Story County. They lived on the home place near Gilbert before moving to a farm south of Ames. They farmed there for 23 years. In 1970 they bought a farm south of Nevada where they lived and farmed for 37 years. Sylvester passed his love of farming onto his son and grandson. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Story County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed spending time with his family and teasing his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lila Uthe of Nevada; daughters Linda Uthe of Nevada, Anita Uthe of Nevada, Marlene (Lyle) Borkowski of Manning, Karen (Alan) Knaphus of McCallsburg and son Doug (Sue) Uthe of Nevada; grandchildren Renee and Ross Uthe and Kari and Amy Borkowski; one brother Raymond Uthe of Ames, and one sister Dorothy Welsh of Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and five sisters. Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
