Sylvia Alfareeta Thompson's Life Story written by herself. "I have decided to write my past life as nearly as I can and back as far as I remember. First I was born in Wisconsin in 1861. Of course that is farther back than I remember, but I have statements to show that the Civil War started in 1861, I was born on the 20th day of January of that year, also I lived close to a small village called at that time Bull's head and changed soon after Giard of course that was in Iowa state. We lived there untill I was nearly 9 years old and lived on a farm called the Kinkaid place with a sugar camp on it. There we made all our maple sugar and syrup and that time still seems to me a sweet time as I was at the age to enjoy sweets. And as my parents came near losing me at the age of six with fever my life being allmost dispaired at that when I was spared to them nothing was to good for me well when we left the Kinkaid place we went to Dekaff county Missouri for the winter. The name of our P.O. being Union Star. While liveing there in brother Carsons house (only a brother in Church) God sent me twin sisters wich we named Mary and Martha names chosen by my father he being a circte preacher. We had to move so often wherever conference saw fit to to send him and mother got so tired of moving with somany little folks. The twins being the 13th and 14th children. So we went up into Iowa an settled on a claim but father kept on traveling and preching for the United Brethern Church untill I was twelve when the Lord called him leaving mother with children oldest being 21 and the youngest 3 years old being one of the twins the other having passed away at 7 months and now none but 2 of that large family still lives myself and one sister. When I was 18 I married the man of my choice (having met him 1 1/2 years previous). Two months before my marriage I was converted and joined the Christian Church and it has been 45 years ago last april and I have never had any cause to regret that step when I took my stand for Christ my Savior. I think I was the happiest person on earth for I loved my Savior and I loved my husband and God blessed us with 7 children and now I have four left so we had some sorrow to bear alone with our joys but as it was the Lord's will I have tried to bear with what Patience I could." Note: This hand written story was typed here using the same spelling, grammer, and punctuation that she used when she wrote it. It was not dated but had to have been written shortly before she died because she and one sister, which had to be Fannie Freedom because Sylvia Alfaretta died in 1936 and Fannie Freedom died in 1963, were all that was left of her siblings. Sylvia and Julian were married when she was eighteen on 29 Jun 1879 in Cherokee, Cherokee, Iowa.They moved to Moscow, Idaho in a covered wagon in a small wagon train. Sylvia was afraid of the Indians. She could read and write English. Her mother was her teacher. They had seven children. They lived there and then they moved to Oregon. Sylvia died when she was 75 years old. She left behind four children still living.
