Tammy Marie Dickey was born June 4, 1958, to Junior and Lavern (Ludemann) Ludwig in O’Neill, Nebraska. Tammy grew up on a farm and ranch north of Spencer, Nebraska where her brother Jay now resides. Tammy Marie Dickey was born June 4, 1958, to Junior and Lavern (Ludemann) Ludwig in O’Neill, Nebraska. Tammy grew up on a farm and ranch north of Spencer, Nebraska where her brother Jay now resides. She attended elementary and high school in Spencer and graduated from Spencer High School in 1976. Tammy then continued her education at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska where she studied art and played on the women’s basketball team. She graduated from college in 1978 and received an associates of arts degree. After graduating college, Tammy married John Wesley Dickey on September 16, 1978, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bristow, Nebraska. Four children were born to this union. The four kids were born in exactly four years as the oldest and youngest share the same birthday! John and Tammy lived in Spalding, Nebraska after getting married where she ran a small daycare. In 1984, they moved to Spencer to be closer to family and raise their children. Tammy helped run JD’s Gas-N-Shop and showed her artistic talents painting many acrylic wood crafts and selling them at craft fairs on the side. Then in 1990, Tammy started working at Spencer-Naper Public Schools (now West Boyd Schools) where she worked the past 30 years until she took an early retirement this past August. She worked in the lunchroom as a cook for the first few years and then as a para-educator for the remainder of her career. Tammy loved children and touched many student’s lives throughout her time at the school. She also cleaned for Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Community Hall, the park buildings, and ASCS offices on the side for many years. She was a very hard worker. Tammy’s family and grandkids meant the world to her and she enjoyed spending time with all of them. She also loved her flowers, scrapbooking pictures of her grandkids, and lottery tickets – She was a two-time winner of the Nebraska Pick 5 lottery! Tammy had a strong faith, big heart, and deep love for all her family and friends. She will be missed by many. Tammy is survived by her husband, John; four children, Andrea (Kyle) Connot of Stuart, Laura (Rick) Kemp of Hastings, Krista (Matt) Stull of Kearney and Bobby (Karmen) Dickey of O’Neill; mother-in-law, Lorraine Dickey of O’Neill; eight grandchildren, Seth, Austin, Addison, Adrina, Bailey, Hudson, Carter, and Brooks; four siblings, Jay (Deb) Ludwig of Spencer, Connie (Doug) Johnson of Spencer, Deb (Tom) Kayl of Spencer, and Edward (Annette) Ludwig of Spencer; two sisters-in-law, Jane Sedlacek of Spencer and Cheryl (Stan) Johnson of Kearney; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Junior and Lavern Ludwig; grandparents; father-in-law, Robert Dickey; brother-in-law, Lawrence Sedlacek; and several aunts, uncles, and friends.
