(Ted) Smith, 72, 510 Crook Street, Hampton, passed away Friday, February 19, 2010, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter county, he was a son of the late Ernest E. and Nannie Peters Smith. He was a 1956 graduate of Hampton High School. Read More	Theodore (Ted) Smith Obituary - Born - Sep 23, 1937 - Died Feb 19, 2010 HAMPTON - Theodore L. (Ted) Smith, 72, 510 Crook Street, Hampton, passed away Friday, February 19, 2010, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter county, he was a son of the late Ernest E. and Nannie Peters Smith. He was a 1956 graduate of Hampton High School. Mr. Smith retired as a truck drive after 42 years of service from Inland Container. He was also a School Bus Driver for the Carter County School System for 10 years. He was a former Carter County Commissioner. Mr. Smith was a member of the Hampton Fire Department . He served on the Carter County School Board. He loved to fish and do woodworking. He served in the Tennessee National Guard. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church and Hampton Masonic Lodge #750. He was a member of the Confederate Sons of America. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Reece, Hugh, John and Tom Smith; and three sisters: Blonnie Nash, Lillian Smith and Kate Smith. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Peggy Oliver Smith; Two Daughters & Sons-in-Law: Melissa R. and Jim Williams, Hampton, and Melinda H. & Tom Bentulan, Knoxville; Two Granddaughters: Danielle Williams and fiancé, Billy Matherly, Johnson City, and Morgan Powell, Knoxville; Two Sisters: Wanda Griggs and husband, Lee, of Roswell, Georgia, and Ginger Lewis, Elizabethton. Several Nieces, Nephews & Great Nieces and Nephews also survive. His special Friends: Jake Nave Lyons, Wesley Murray, Elijah and Hannah Smith. Funeral Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lee Griggs and Rev. Danny Bright officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday February 22, 2010, in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Music will be provided by Ronnie Campbell, Mitzi Hobbs and Dennis Laws. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Monday, will be: Harry Crowe, Jeff Smith, Leon Tolley, Mike Nash, Kenneth Rainbolt, Jerry Nave, Jeff Mathews, Chris Mathews and Charles Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be: Billy Matherly, Johnny Hobbs, Terry Lewis, Alex Lewis, Roger Smith, Glen Hayes, Bob Winters, Teddy Reed, Dwayne Smith, Pat Smith, Aubrey Brown, Doug Calhoun Members of his Sunday School Class, Union Baptist Church, and Carter County School Bus Garage employees. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. To Those who prefer memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Smith to the Hampton Fire Department, The Carter County Rescue Squad or the Carter County Animal Shelter. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Johnson City Medical Center Nurses and Doctors, Sycamore Shoals ICU and ER Nurses, North Side Princeton Transitional Care Staff, Dr. Robert Walter, Dr. Iserol Garcia, The staff of Amedysis Home Health Care and members of the Carter County Rescue Squad.
