Kabelitz, Pastor International Casket and Urn Gallery Clearwater, FL 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2003 In Loving Memory of Telford "Telly" Hilman Woldum May 28, 1913 to October 12, 2003 Telford, always known simply as Telly, was born to John and Cecelia Woldum on May 28, 1913, in Decorah, Ioa. He was the second of six children in the family. Telly began working in the family poultry business after school when he was only 10 for the big wage of 8 cents an hour. He continued working throughout high school, but still managed to find time to play basketball and enjoy other sports. After graduation from Decorah High in 1931, Telly accedpted a position as foreman for another Decorah poultry firm. One day while at work in the processing plant, a pretty young lady Dorothy Hall caught his eye and his heart. They began dating and were married on April 9, 1936. Telly and Dorothy were blessed with two daughters, Barbara and Donna. The Woldum family moved to Osage, Iowa, when Telly was promoted to plant manager. He later accepted a position as field representative for Land O'Lakes poultry processing and was promoted to plant manager in Albert Lee, MN. During World War II Telly's contribution to the war effort was managing an egg drying plant which provided rations for the troups. Lutheran born and bred, Telly and Dorothy were active members Our Saviour in Osage where he served as usher. So when Telly retired in 1978, and they moved to Springwood II in Pinellas Park, FL, they joined nearby St. Stephen and remained members until it closed in 2002. Telly always had a love of sports whether as a fan or a participant. While in Osage he coached young boys baseball and football teams. In retirement he enjoyed playing golf on a beautiful Florida day, and was proud of his trophy for a hole-in-one. Bowling with friends in a men's league was another favorite pass time. When he was no longer able to participate, watching sports on TV remained a bright spot in Telly's life. Both Telly and Dorothy were leaders in the Springwood II community, serving on the board and directing an exciting and successful bingo program for many years. When the clubhouse was remodeled Telly arranged for their chairs to be given to St. Stephen where they were truly appreciated. Telly welcomed newcomers and offered his assistance to anyone in need. Every morning on his walk he had fun picking up the newspapers left at the curb and tossing them up to the doors. Come rain or shine, his neighbors could count on finding their newspapers conveniently place on their doorsteps thanks to Telly. Telly was Dorothy's best friend, sweetheart and constant companion for 67 wonderful years. He was a gentleman and a gentle man. He was quiet and reserved with those outside the family, he could be silly and funny teasing with his girls. When Telly spoke, people listened. Barbara and Donna say, "If he told us once how things should be, he told us 84 times". He was always there in the difficult times. Even though his is gone, they will always have Dad. Telly is survived by Dorothy his wife of 67 years; his daughters Barbara Blythe of Athens, TX and Donna Bailey of Victoria, MN: his brother Norman Woldum of Decorah, Iowa; 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Telly was cremated at International Casket and Urn Gallery in Clearwater, FL.
