Description	:	Mrs. Tena Van Roekel, 82, of Pella, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Pella Community Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 29 in the chapel of the Van DykDuven Funeral Home in Pella. Rev. Norman J. Schouten and Rev. Richard J. Lichtl officiated. Interment was at the Memory Garden in Sioux Center on Tuesday, Nov. 30 with the Rev. Henry Eggink officiating. Mrs. Van Roekel was born on June 4, 1900 at Sioux Center, the daughter of John and Alyda Rensink Doornwaard. She graduated from Sioux Center High School and Central College in Pella and later attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison. In 1925 she began teaching in the Pella Public Schools until her marriage. She was married to Dr. Henry Van Roekel on July 11, 1929 at San Francisco, Calif. The couple lived in Amherst, Mass. for 32 years where Dr. Van Roekel was a professor at the University of Massachusetts. The couple then moved to Pella after Dr. Van Roekel retired. Dr. Van Roekel passed away March 6, 1982. Mrs. Van Roekel was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Pella, the Literary Club, and P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter BU. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, two brothers, John and Gary Doornwaard; and a sister, Cena, Mrs. Al Van Roekel. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
