Funeral services were Monday, March 8, at 11 a.m., at the Chapel of the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. The Revs. Norman J. Schouten and Richard Lichtl officiated. In conjunction with this, funeral services were held at the Chapel of Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Henry Eggink officiating. On July 11, 1929 he was united in marriage with Tena Doornwaard at San Francisco, California. Dr. Van Roekel was a Professor at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass. for 32 years. Following his retirement, Dr. and Mrs. Van Roekel moved to Pella, Iowa where they made their home the past 10 years. Van Roekel was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Pella, Ia. Survivors include his wife; one sister, Mrs. Christina (Neal) Kuyper from Holstein, Iowa, and 29 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Grace, Mrs. John Mouw; and six brothers: John, Chris, Otto, William, Albert and George Van Roekel. Sioux Center News 1982-03-17.
