She attained the age of 87 years, two months and 21 days. Officiating during the service was the Rev. Steve VanRoekel. Honorary pallbearers were all of Tena's grandchildren. Albers was born April 14, 1921, near Lennox, SD, the daughter of Louie and Fannie (Bossman) Albers. She grew up and attended school in this area graduating from Lennox High School in 1939. She continued her education at the Moody Bible Institute. On June 25, 1942 she married Peter E. Javers at the Parsonage of A. E. Drake in Lennox. Tena was an active and faithful member of Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for 62 years. She also volunteered at the Union Gospel Mission and taught Bible Study for 40 years at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center. She enjoyed stamp cutting for the Exchange, crocheting blankets for Project Linus and gardening in the park with the Lennox Petal Pals. In 1999 Tena was honored with an Executive Proclamation by then Governor Bill Janklow for dedicating her life to her church, community, family and friends to make South Dakota a better place. In 2001 she was honored with the Tradition of Caring Award. She also was named Senior Volunteer of the Month by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She joined this organization in 1986 and accumulated more than 5276 volunteer hours. Tena was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all. Besides her parents, Tena was preceded in death by one brother, Fredrick Albers in 1978 and two sisters, Fannie Rust in 2000 and Johanna Schulz in 2000. Having been in declining health, Tena died Sunday afternoon, Jul. 6, 2008 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg, SD. She attained the age of 87 years, two months and 21 days. Tena is survived by her husband of 66 years, Peter E. Javers, Lennox; four sons: Jimmy (Mitzi) Javers, Gilbert, SC, Gene (Pat) Javers, Bobby (JoAnn) Javers and Lynn (Elaine) Javers all of Lennox; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: George (Alberta) Albers, Tea and Albert (Melva) Albers, Sioux Falls and a host of other relatives and friends.
