Description	:	TERESA ZIEGLER Teresa Reinland was born May 13, 1917, in Portland, Ore., the youngest child of George and Katherine Reinland who had immigrated from Hungary in 1909. When Teresa was six, her family purchased a small packing shed and apple orchard in Underwood. Read More	TERESA ZIEGLER Teresa Reinland was born May 13, 1917, in Portland, Ore., the youngest child of George and Katherine Reinland who had immigrated from Hungary in 1909. When Teresa was six, her family purchased a small packing shed and apple orchard in Underwood. Her parents converted the top floor of the packing shed into a home, and the family learned quickly to run an orchard and packing shed. Teresa attended elementary school in Underwood and high school in White Salmon, graduating in 1935. She played center on the girls' basketball team, acted in plays, and was one of three girls who helped fill out the boys football team. Teresa's friendship with the Ziegler sisters who lived up the road, led to an acquaintance with their shy brother, Reno. A romance slowly bloomed and they married Nov. 10, 1935, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Salmon. Teresa and Reno's fathers helped Reno build the home in Underwood that they lived in for nearly 40 years. Teresa was a wonderful homemaker, raising five children while cooking delicious meals, canning, freezing, helping her own aging parents, ironing, gardening, keeping an immaculate house, helping others, etc., rarely sitting down or spending time for herself. Teresa also worked outside the home whenever necessary, in the cannery, fruit warehouse, hospital and variety store. In 1971, after Reno retired, and with all their children raised and married, they sold their land and had a new home built on the bluff. Finally, the two had time to relax, and Teresa began oil painting, golfing, crocheting afghans for each of her grandchildren, and decorating cakes for all occasions. They maintained a huge garden and beautiful yard, and Teresa continued to can and freeze the garden's produce. Over the years, their family grew to include 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Teresa was looking forward to another great grandchild this fall and her first great, great grandchild in August. On April 30, 1994, Teresa was widowed when her beloved Reno died of a heart attack. Unable to maintain the large garden and flower beds, she sold the bluff home and purchased a lot and home in White Salmon. It wasn't long until beautiful flower beds popped up again around her new home. In 2005, after tragically losing her son, Kenny, Teresa had a car accident, breaking her sternum and totaling her car. While recuperating, she decided that she was ready to go into assisted living. She moved into Hawk's Ridge, where she lived until entering Skyline Hospital on April 25, 2011, with heart complications. Teresa died on May 27, 2011. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sharon Marie Ziegler, her husband, Reno Ziegler, and her son, Kenneth Ziegler. She is survived by sons R. Clark (Helen) and Jim (Joyce) Ziegler, and daughters, Betty (Calvin) Slocum and Linda (Bill) Crego, 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren The Enterprise June 07, 2011
