Read More	GORDEN, THEDA PAULINE (MANCHESTER) Denison Bulletin/Review 6/5/2008 Theda Pauline (Manchester) Gorden was born September 17, 1926 in Dunlap, Iowa, daughter of Wade and Olive Mae (Elbert) Manchester. She died on May 23, 2008 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 6 days. She graduated from the Dunlap School and worked at the Dunlap Public Library. She met Charles Plato Gorden while working at the Dow City Theater, which her father owned. Theda and Plato were married at the Methodist Parsonage in Dunlap, Iowa on September 25, 1944. They had 5 sons. Theda and Plato farmed with his family and other area farmers for several years. They later moved to Dow City, Iowa. She did many odd jobs such as hanging wallpaper, painting houses inside and outside, sewing and mending for other people. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dow City. She was also a member of UMW (United Methodist Women). In February 1954, she became a member of the reorganized "Friendship Club" which she was a member for 54 years. She was the secretary of the Dow City Library Association, and over the years she held various positions in many of these clubs. She also became a member of the Red Hat Society at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She made the most wonderful delicious homemade Butterscotch Pie for family gatherings. She loved to do crossword puzzles, card games and board games. She also liked camping, reading and flowers. Theda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Plato Gorden on October 10, 2002, one son Joseph in 1959, two sisters Eileen Warnemuende and her husband Mel, and Betty Bauer, one brother Howard Manchester, three brothers-in-law Edward Gorden, Harold Daisy and Roy Segebart and one sister-in-law Leona Gorden. She is survived by four sons: David and wife Jody; Richard and wife Joanne; Charlie and wife Judy; and Tim; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law: Betty Manchester, Nettie Daisy and Betty Segebart; four brothers-in-law: Kenny Bauer; George "Bill" Gorden and wife Scenna; Frank Gorden and wife Marge; Jess Gorden and wife Jeanie; many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at United Methodist Church in Dow City, Iowa. Rev. Alberta Ervin officiated the services and graveside rites held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa. Organist Deb Garrett provided accompaniment for hymns, "In the Garden" and "Just As I Am, Without One Plea" by soloist EveVonne Muff. Those serving as honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those serving as pallbearers were Bruce Thompson, Sylvester Head, Mick Gorden, Shawn Gorden, Ace Ettleman and Joe Gorden. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Methodist Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
