Ryder, twenty, 922 Anderson Steet, mother of a three-year-old daughter, died Sunday at two a.m. at King's Daughters' Hospital. Mrs. Ryder, a former waitress in a number of Staunton restaurants, was removed to the hospital Thursday afternoon by ambulance after she had drunk carbolic acid at her home. The victim was also being treated for burns about the face, believed to have been received when she consumed the potent liquid. Friday it was reported that the girl had regained consciousness. However, Saturday her condition was reported to have "taken a turn for the worse." FRUSTRATED ONCE According to Mrs. Louise Martin Bell, policewoman, Mrs. Ryder attempted to drink some of the acid earlier in the day, but it was knocked from her hand by a woman with whom she was boarding. Mrs. Bell asserted that later in the day the girl puchased an ounce of the liquid, mixed it with some whiskey in a glass, and drank it. An empty one ounce bottle, which had contained carbolic acid, was found in the girl's clothing. The Policewoman stated that on two other occasions, Mrs. Ryder had attempted. Once while in Waynesboro she drank iodine and another time at her home here she consumed a quantity of lysol. Asked why she had taken the acid, the victim stated: "No one can help me now." disclosed Mrs. Bell. Assisting the policewoman in the investigation were Officers W.W. Ashby and C.E. Gregory. BORN IN 1925 Mrs.Ryder was born Nov.25, 1925, a daughter of Elmer and Lilliemint Campbell Ramsey of Montebello. Surviving are her husband, Kent Carson Ryder, United States Navy: daughter, Norma Kathleen Ryder: mother, Mrs. Lilliemint Bradley, Waynesboro. Funeral services will be held this morning at eleven o'clock from the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, Steels Tavern. Burial will be in church cemetery. The funeral procession will leave the home of her mother at ten a.m.
