A Graveside Service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at Westend Cemetery in St. Matthews, SC, officiated by Rev. Dr. Thomas B. Huggins, Jr. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg, is in charge. Mrs. Spires, widow of Robert Spires, Sr. was born August 8, 1924, in Fairfield County. She was the daughter of the late Bernice Garland Hancock and the late Willie Clyde Tillman Hancock. She was a member of The First Baptist Church, St. Matthews, SC. Mrs. Spires was a loving wife and mother and worked with her husband in their country grocery store and gas station. She was preceded in death by 1 sister, Martha McKissick; 1 brother, Bernice Hancock, Jr.; 1 granddaughter, Glenda Spires and 1 grandson, Robbie McKissick. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Faye Spires, Jr., Glenn and Ginny Spires, and Garry and Crystal Spires all of St. Matthews, SC, and Ray and Jill Spires of Seneca, SC; her sister, Margaret Wise of St. Matthews; 11 grandchildren, 2 stepgrands, 18 great-grands, 10 step greatgrands and 1 step great-great-grandson. Friends may call at the funeral home. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
