The son of Herman and Patty Plugge Van Dieken, Ted was born Aug. 11, 1933 at Tilden. He grew up on a farm around the Tilden-Meadow Grove area, until he moved to Stanton with his parents in the winter of 1950. He graduated from Stanton High School in 1951. On Nov. 5, 1956 he was united in marriage with Rita O'Brien. Their married life was spent at Battle Creek and Stanton where he was involved with gravel pits. He was manager of Mid-West Bridge and Construction Co. gravel pit at Stanton at the time of his death. He died Sept. 13 at a Norfolk hospital from a massive heart attack. He had suffered a severe heart condition since June of this year. Survivors include his wife Rita, one son, T.J. at home; and four daughters- Joanie (Mrs. Kevin) McCarville, Lincoln; Julie, Anne and Amy, all at home. Also surviving are two sisters- Mrs. Norman (Katherine) Hansen, Ogallala and Mrs. Charles W. (Glendoris) Cole of Colorado Springs, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents.
