Description	:	Theodore Norman Schmidt was born December 15, 1918 at rural Avon, South Dakota to Jacob G. and Stella (Nelson) Schmidt. Ted attended Mitchell School through the eighth grade. Read More	Theodore Norman Schmidt was born December 15, 1918 at rural Avon, South Dakota to Jacob G. and Stella (Nelson) Schmidt. Ted attended Mitchell School through the eighth grade. Like so many others of his generation, Ted grew up during hard times. As a kid he and his family often moved from place to place trying to make a living and keep food on the table. Ted married Raymalee "Jean" Reichardt on November 21, 1953 in White River, South Dakota. This marriage was blessed with 4 children. Ted and Jean raised their family on their ranch between White River and Wood, SD. They lived on the ranch for 38 years before moving into White River in 1991. It was about 3 or 4 years after moving into town that Ted started rebuilding old tractors, particularly Ford/Ferguson tractors. Even until the very end, with Jean's help Ted continued to work on his tractors. All his life Ted worked hard and yet to Ted, life was beautiful and he found beauty in so many things, simple things, like the lay of the land, his cattle, a field of alfalfa, a stack of hay, and a good meal. Ted loved the land and especially loved moving dirt and building dams. One of the dams he worked on was the Pure-Water Dam. His dream was to see the Pure-Water Dam rebuilt someday. Ted loved life and he never wanted to die. He had so much to live for and he always had plans for one more day. Ted passed away at his home in White River on April 30, 2010 at age 91. Preceding him in death were his parents Jacob "Jake" and Stella Schmidt, grandson Jacob "Jake" Schmidt, daughter-in-law Candace Schmidt, brother Richard "Dick" Schmidt and sisters Mary Huber and Bernice "Tootie" Perry. He is survived by wife Jean of White River, 3 sons; David (Sandy) of Winner, SD, Ted E. (Barb) of White River and Raymon "Ray" (Debbie) of Upton, WY, and daughter Sally Parsons of Rapid City, SD. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral service for Ted Schmidt was held Monday, May 3, 2010 at White River Community Events Center. Pastor Iva Laudermith officiated at the 2:00 P.M. service. Burial followed at White River Cemetery. The family has designated the memorial in Ted's honor to be made to the "Ronald McDonald House". Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine was entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
