He was born November 4, 1880 to John and Margaret (Trinckes) Steichen on the farm near Alton--the same farm where he later reared his own family of thirteen children, following his marriage to Alvina Miller on January 30, 1913. Surviving are Mrs. Steichen and all the children, who are: Mrs. Ted Schwebach, Mrs. Wesley Kuester, Alton; Mrs. Orville Behrends, Evansville, Minnesota; Mrs. Fred Stadie and Mrs. Richard Lindquist, both of Dundee, Illinois; Bob of Canby, Minnesota; Howard of Paullina; Mrs. George Daum of Sutherland; Alvin, Sylvester, Vernon, Milo and Jim, all at home; one brother, John; and 34 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 9:00 o’clock Wednesday morning, Reverend Zeno Reising officiating. Pallbearers were Bert Reuter, Ben Minten, Mike Hansen, Otto Probst, Ray Klein and Felix Streff. The children and their families were here for the services, which were attended by many friends, neighbors and townspeople of this life-long resident, good neighbor and kind father.
