Estey, died 23rd May, 1857. Aged 43 years. Also his wife Clarissa J. died 23rd Feb. 1860. Aged 34[?] years. Theophilus Ring Estey, born 1813, was the son of Nehemiah Brown Estey (1771-1855) and Mary J. Ring. His paternal grandparents were Zebulon Estey and Mary Brown. In 1839 he married Clarissa Jane, eldest daughter of Philo Seely of St. George, Charlotte County. Morning News, Saint John, NB, 23 January 1854: At Fredericton on the 17th inst. Helen Augusta, daughter of Mr. Theophilus Estey of that city, aged 3 years and 2 months. Helen Augusta Estey died in the year of the cholera plague and is undoubtedly buried here in an unmarked grave. Her sister, Annie Maria, aged 8, died in 1850 and may be buried here also. New Brunswick Reporter and Fredericton Advertiser, Fredericton, NB, 2 March 1860: d. East Cambridge, Mass. 23rd Feb., of typhoid fever, age 38, Clarissa J. Estey relict of Theophilus R. Estey of Fredericton city (York Co.) who died 23 May 1857, left five daughters. Her remains will be brought to Fredericton in April to be laid beside her husband. The first Esty (Estey, Easty) in New Brunswick was Richard who came from Rowley, Massachusetts, one of the early Maugerville settlers. Theophilus Estey and his brother William Shepherd Estey entered into partnership in July 1836. They were general dealers and William S. Estey continued in business after the death of his partner. In 1865 the business was in Queen Street on the corner of Westmorland Street. The Dominion Directory of 1871 described William Esty as a surveyor of lumber at that address. He resided in Charlotte Street. 1851 CENSUS for York County, NB, Canada for Thos R Estey says born abt 1814; blacksmith.
