Nov 6, 1937 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs. W.A. Miller, 74, a resident of Carroll county since 1898, died at her home, 208 North Elm street, at 1:40 o'clock Saturday morning, her death being caused by heart disease and complications. Mrs. Miller's health began to fail last January. In August she was taken seriously ill and was confined to bed for a month. She partially recovered and was able to be up and about the house until ten days ago, since which time she had again been bedfast. The body was taken Saturday afternoon from the Kircher-Dietrich funeral home to her home on North Elm street, where it will remain until the funeral services. Rites will beheld at Ss. Peter and Paul's church at 9 o'clock Monday morning, with the Rev. L. Schenkelberg reading the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Mrs. Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Valentine, was born Theresa Valentine at Lexington, McLane county, Illinois, August 25, 1863. She was eight years old when her parents moved to a farm near Metamora, Illinois. While residing there she became the bride of W.A. Miller, the ceremony taking place at St. Mary's church on April 29, 1884. Mr. and Mrs. Miller came to Iowa from Illinois in 1890 and purchased a farm near Remsen, in Plymouth county, on which they lived until 1898. In that year they came to Carroll county, buying a farm near Roselle, on which they resided until 1920, when they bought the farm, known as the David Martin place, three miles west of Carroll on highway No. 30. They lived on the Martin farm for ten years, coming to Carroll to reside on their retirement in February, 1930. Since the marriage of their youngest daughter, Clara, (Mrs. Clem Renze), they have made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Renze. On April 29, 1934, surrounded by their children and grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Miller celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. It was a memorable occasion in their lives. Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband and ten children: Mrs. Ben Riesberg (Amelia), Roselle; Alois Miller, Carroll; William Miller, Breda; Lawrence Miller, Carroll; Mrs. Albert Wiederin (Margaret), Carroll; Andrew Miller, Early; Mrs. Charles Bellinghausen (Jennie), Carroll; Edmund Miller, Carroll; Mrs. Leo J. Hoffman (Julia), Maple River; and Mrs. Clem Renze, Carroll. She also leaves 38 grandchildren, one great grandson and one brother, Joe Valentine, of Metamora, Illinois. Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Mrs. Miller was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul's church and was interested in the affairs of the parish.
