B. Mayfield, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joe Biderman, Tuesday evening, Aug 13, 1907, aged 65 years of Brights disease. Mr. Mayfield was born in Joe Davis (sic) county, Illinois, February 4, 1842, and moved with his parents to Iowa in 1843. He lived in Iowa until last December when he was brought to Longmont by his daughter, who thought the change in climate might benefit him. Mr. Mayfield leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Mr. Shaw's undertaking parlors, at 3:30. The remains will be shipped to Mineral Ridge, Iowa. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Boone County Democrat August 23, 1907 Thomas Mayfield, another of the best known and most highly esteemed pioneer residents of Boone County, passed away Thursday morning of last week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rosie Beideman, at Longmont, Colorado, after a lingering and painful illness of more than a years duration with a complication of diseases. Funeral services were held there Thursday afternoon and the remains brought to Boone, arriving here at 10:00 o'clock Friday night, and were taken to his old home at Mineral Ridge where they were tenderly laid to rest in the cemetery at that place at 10:00 o'clock Saturday morning, no services being held at this time. Deceased was a native of South Carolina (sic) and was in his seventy fourth year at the time of his death. He came to Boone county at a very early date, the exact date we are unable to state at this time, but he was among the earliest pioneer settlers. He engaged in farming in Dodge township near Mineral Ridge and has made his home there ever since. A man of strict integrity and genial and kindly disposition, his friends were numbered by his acquaintances and he was esteemed and loved by all who knew him. About two years ago his health began to fail and since that time he has steadily grown weaker until the end came. Everything possible was done to prolong his life but to no avail. Something over a year ago he started to Hot Springs, Arkansas to take treatment, but was taken seriously ill in Des Moines on his way down and was taken to Mercy hospital there where he was cared for for several weeks. He recovered sufficiently to be brought to his home here, but did not improve and about eight months ago his daughter, Mrs. Beideman, took him to her home in Colorado in the hope that the change of climate would benefit him but to no avail and he sank gradually until the end came as stated above. He leaves five children, Mrs. Rosie Beideman and Mrs. Susie Jones of Colorado, Mrs. Kelley Fairchild of Dakota and George and Ben of Boone, to whom is extended the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement.
