''''''''''''''''' The Ulysses Dispatch, June 26, 1901, p. 3, col. 3 IN MEMORIAM Thomas Lambe aged 18 yrs., 8 mos, and 5 days died at St. Joseph hospital at Omaha on Tuesday, June 11, 1901, after an illness of about four months. Deceased was born at Bloomington, Ill., on Oct. 6, 1882, and with his parents and three brothers, all of whom survive him, he moved to Nebraska in March, 1888, and settled on a farm 4 miles southwest of Ulysses, where he remained until Jan. 1, 1900, when he remained until Jan. 1, 1900, when he entered Boyle's Commercial College at Omaha. While at college he applied himself so faithfully that he completed the six months course in four and a half mos., and then received the honorable position as book-keeper in the Union Pacific headquarters, which he held until Feb. 26, when he was taken sick with la-grippe, which soon turned to pneumonia and typhoid fever. His father went to see him and had him taken to the hospital where he received the best care and medical attention. He underwent a very critical operation for an abcess of the lungs and was getting along so nicely that he intended coming home June 17, but June 10 he took a relapse and died of blood poisoning the next day. The father, who had left him when he was getting better, did not reach him in time to see his boy alive after receiving the telegram to come at once. The funeral services were held at St. Joseph's hospital on June 12. The remains were brought to Ulysses and interred in the Catholic cemetery the 13th. The floral offerings were beautiful. It seems very sad to think that in the midst of success and the bloom of youth Thomas would be taken from those who loved him, but it is a comfort to think that he led a noble, Christian life, and that as a beautiful rose be withered on earth only to bloom more brightly in heaven. O how sad for his dear father, And his brothers, James and Ed, And his little brother Lawrence When they learned that he was dead. For they'd waited long and anxious As the days passed slowly by; Could he only come to see them, Could he just come home to die. He came home but he was sleeping With a smile upon his face, Just as if an angel passing Lowly bent to kiss the place. From the walls of that great city Many a peaceful soul and brave, Found its way to him who triumphed Once for all above the grave.
