Read More	Tom Streff Dies Sunday The community was shocked and saddened Sunday morning upon learning of the death early that morning of Tom Streff, one of the well known and liked young men of the Lawrence area. Death came suddenly and unexpected. Tom who had started working on a new job in Hastings on Monday became ill on Thursday, by Saturday evening he seemed to feel much better but about one o'clock his folks Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Streff found him very ill suffering from what seemed to be an internal hemmorhage (sic). He was taken by ambulance to the Mary Lanning Hospital but passed away enroute to Hastings. He was born in Aurora, Ill., but spent most of his life in Nebraska. He resided the past 15 years in Lawrence and was employed by Hatten Electric, Hastings. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Scripture services were Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence. Funeral services are being held today Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart church (sic) with the Rev. John Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart cemetery (sic) with military rites at graveside. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Streff, Lawrence, a brother, Michael, Lawrence; and three sisters, Barbara, Beth and Mrs. Mary Kay Beiver, all of Lawrence. The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, March 18, 1976; pg. 1 ======== Funeral services were held Wednesday March 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart church (sic), Lawrence, Nebr. for Tom Streff. The Mass of the Resurrection was offered by Father John Kelly who also officiated at the graveside services in Sacred Heart cemetery (sic) with full military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Kent-Kaily Post # 45 of Lawrence. John Lakey was commentator for the Mass. Mrs. LaVern Kohmetscher accompanied by Mrs. Richard Herbek at the organ led the congregational singing. Pall bearers were six cousins: Steve Klein, Ron Reise, Donald Brockman, Tim Streff, Roger Hoffman and Terry Parr. Members of the American Legion Firing Squad were Gary Buescher, Bob Kotinek, Dennis Buescher, Lyle Kohmetscher, Don Herbek and Ron Buescher. The Chaplains prayers was recited by Harold Schroer. The flag was folded by Dwayne Reiman and Harold Schroer who also presented the flag to Mr. and Mrs. Streff. Taps were sounded by Gene Hoelting and Barbara Reiman. Tom Streff, son of Gerald and Teresa (Loskill) Streff was born at Aurora, Illinois on December, 9, 1951 and died at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings March 14, 1976, at the age of 24 years, 3 months and 5 days. At the age of 2 years he and his parents and family moved to Roseland, Nebr. and in 1962 to Lawrence. Tom graduated from Sacred Heart Parochial school, Lawrence High School and Central Technical Community College near Hastings. He had started work several days before his death at the Hattan Electrical Co. in Hastings. He was a life time member of the Catholic church, a Knight of Columbus and the American Legion having served his country during the Vietnam War. He had the honor of being a member of the honor guard who participated in the final rites for former president L. B. Johnson at Austin, Texas. He stood guard at the Johnson Library in Austin and also at the graveside services in the family cemetery on Johnson Ranch. He belonged to the Lawrence Volunteer Fire department and was a member of the ambulance crew and with neighborly kindness and care, many times, night or day, helped transport patients to a doctor or hospital. He devoted much time, especially during the summer months with the youth of the community and managed the Junior Legion baseball team. Tom went about living his life in an inconspicious (sic) manner, but was always to be depended upon to do more than his share toward helping his family, friends and community. Maybe that was why Tom was taken for granted and not fully appreciated until his work in this world was completed and he was called to his eternal reward. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Streff, a brother Michael Streff, three sisters, Mrs. Don (Mary Kay) Biebers, Barbara and Beth, at home 3 nephews and his grandparents, Mr, and Mrs. John Loskill of Roseland. A very large number of relatives and friends attending the funeral came from Roseland, Kenesaw, Hastings, Beatrice, Holdrege, Henderson, Omaha, Lincoln, Nelson, Aurora, Ill., Edgar, Deweese and Blue Hill.
