Kimsey, Dundy county's earliest settler, passed away at his home in this city last Friday evening. While he had been in failing health for some time, the end came quite unexpectedly. Shortly after suppertime he arose from his chair to retire for the night, when he suddenly reeled and fell over dead. Mr. Kimsey was one of the earliest settlers in Dundy county, coming here from Nemaha county in 1880. He settled on Indian Creek, where he engaged in farming and stock raising. He weathered the storms of adversity with a stout heart and unlimited faith in the future development of this country. In 1905, with his advanced age and growing infirmity, the life became too strenuous for him and he sold the place to Andy Rosenfelt and moved to Benkelman where he resided until his death. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church, Rev. E. C. Staley conducting the services in the presence of a large body of Odd Fellows, Rebekahs and friends. The Odd Fellows conduced the services at the grave. Thomas C. Kimsey was born in Kentucky on March 16, 1833, and departed this life April 30, 1920, age 87 years, 1 month and 14 days. He went from Kentucky to Peoria, Ill., and in 1857 moved to Nemaha county, Neb., where in the same year he was married to Elizabeth Clark. To this union were born two children; John Walter Kimsey of Max, Neb., and Mrs. Bell Warner of Sacramento, Cala., who departed this life two years ago last January. After the death of his wife, Elizabeth Clark, in 1864, he was married to Sarah Ann Bailey of Red Oak, Iowa, August 3, 1865. To this union eleven children were born, six having preceded him into the other world. The five living are: Lillie F. Bohrer, of Red Cloud, Samuel K Kimsey of Haigler, Neb.; Ora May Nichols, Iola, Colo.; Rosie Nellie Ochs, Wauneta, Neb., and Florence Lewis of Colorado. He located in Benkelman June 20, 1880, where he has since made his home. He leaves to mourn his departure a wife, one brother, Enoch Kimsey of Derby,. Iowa, two sons and five daughters, 33 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows about fifty years ago and was a member of the local lodge in Benkelman at the time of his demise.
