Thomas Cummings was the son of Thomas and Susannah Cummings, who were among the first settlers in this state from Virginia. He settled on what is now known as the old Cummings farm. Thomas Cummings was the son of Thomas and Susannah Cummings, who were among the first settlers in this state from Virginia. He settled on what is now known as the old Cummings farm. Thomas Cummings was born April 26th, 1835, at the old Cummings homestead, where he died September 26th, 1891, aged 56 years. In the year 1861 he was married to Mary J. Hiser, and to them were born 9 children, all of which survive him except one, which died in infancy. Since then in two short weeks, two others have passed away to be with him at rest, he joined the church at the age of 13 and has had responsible official relation in the church the most of his life. He spent his whole life in this community, was highly respected as a citizen and neighbor, and was especially devoted to his wife and family. He spared neither time nor means for their comfort. He was followed to his last resting place in the beautiful cemetery near the Pisgah Church by a large concourse of neighbors and friends. -------------------------
