He lived at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cynthia Wadley, 506 Fillmore street. His death occurred there. Dyson became ill with a severe cold Monday, after he had been drenched in the downpour of the day before. The cold soon developed into fever, and with vitality weakened he was unable to recover. His death was quiet. He fell asleep early yesterday morning not to waken again. His last words were spoken to his daughter Friday night, when he said that he was crossing the river and all was peaceful and right with his Creator. Dyson was born Jan. 21, 1816, in Guernsey county, Ohio. His father was a native of Maryland, born in 1775, and was a hunter and trapper. When Thomas was 16 years old his parents removed to Athens county, Ohio, and he was married there in 1840. Fifteen years later he went to Warren county, Ill., where he farmed for several years, later going to New England, Ohio, as a merchant. His successes as a business man led him to Bloomingdale, Wis., in 1876, where he had purchased several farms and other property. He had virtually retired from active business life by this time, however. From Wisconsin Dyson went to Oskaloosa, Kansas, in 1894. Six years later his wife died and he came to St. Joseph the following year to make his home with his daughter, Wadley. Mr. Dyson led a temperate life and it was his boast that he had never used liquor or tobacco. For many years he was a devout member of the Christian church, and even to the time of his last illness was a faithful student of the Bible. The aged man was of good physique and possessed all his faculties except his hearing. Always alert, he was hardly old more than in years for in thought he was entirely modern. His mind even to the last seemed to be active and clear. After taking ill he talked with relatives concerning their welfare and about subjects of importance in the world today. Hardly more than a week ago he visited the motion picture house of his grandson on St. Joseph avenue. He was also a motorist, delighting in automobile trips. He is survived by a son, Charles W. Dyson, 1223 Fifth avenue, and two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Wallace of Topeka, Kan., and Mrs. Wadley of St. Joseph. Mr. Dyson took great interest in his grandchildren as well as his children. They are B. D. and T. D. Dyson of St. Joseph and W. D. Dyson of Viroqua, Wis., and George Dyson of Amesville, Ohio. The above is from a St. Joseph paper of Sunday last.
