Kilpatrick, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, surrounded by family, after a long battle with multiple myeloma (cancer) and congestive heart failure. A memorial service was held Thursday, Jan. 22, in Mill Creek, and another will be held in Laurel, Mont., at a later date. Tom was born in Laurel on Oct. 2, 1931, to Robert A. "Bud" and Rose Kilpatrick. He attended Laurel schools and graduated from Laurel High School in 1949. He attended Eastern Montana College in Billings for two years and graduated from Montana State University in Missoula in 1953 with a bachelor of arts degree in English. He married Donna G. Hard on June 12, 1953. He served in the U.S Army for two years and worked for the American Chrome Co. in Nye, Mont., where he managed the company store for two years. He began his teaching career in Dutton in 1960 for two years, moved to Cut Bank, Mont., for one year and then returned to Laurel Senior High School in 1963 as an English and Speech and Drama teacher until he retired in 1988. Tom and Donna opened the Laurel Movie Haus with partners Dione and John Smith in 1977 until 1982. Tom and Donna continued to own and operate the theater until it burned to the ground in 1996. Tom also served in the Montana State legislature for two terms and the Laurel City Council for four years. Tom was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Laurel. Tom and Donna moved to Bothell, Wash., in 2004, where they became members of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Mill Creek, Wash. He enjoyed living in Washington, which brought him closer to the ocean and his daughters and granddaughters. He loved to read and go to movies and theater. He is survived by his wife, Donna, of 55 years; daughter Debbie of Bothell; daughter Janus Koski (Dale) of Port Orchard; and granddaughters Lisa Mort (Dusty) of Port Orchard, Erin Koski of Mill Creek and Emily Koski of Everett.
