Tommy, as he was known to everyone, was born on November 14, 1926, to Barbara and Clement Lennon of Duncombe, Iowa. Tommy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marigene, and five children Linda Henke (David Bristol) of St Louis; Sandy Wilke (Kurt) of Fort Dodge; Sue Auten (Jerry) of Dartmouth, New Hampshire; Tim Lennon (LaChelle Brend) of Clare; and Lori Panther (Marty) of Iowa City. Tommy and Marigene have 10 grandchildren: Andrew Henke; Christopher, Jonathan, and Benjamin Wilke; Walt Auten; Patrick, Scott, and Tyler Lennon, Stephanie Peterson; and Emily and Thomas Panther. Tommy was preceded in death by two siblings: Irene Lennon, and Francis Rhoads. He is survived by a brother, Joe Lennon of Duncombe; and three sisters, Peggy Harvey of Fort Dodge, Teresa Garman of Ames, and Mary Mackenberg of Hemp Hill, Texas. Tommy graduated from Clare High School in 1944 and enlisted in the army. He served in the Phillipines for two and one-half years. On November 17, 1948 he was united in marriage to Marigene Heun at St. Matthew church in Clare. He was a member of the St. Joseph parish and then Holy Trinity. Tommy farmed for most of his life near Barnum, Iowa. He was an extraordinary machinist and was able to fix his broken equipment as well as his neighbors' quickly. His love for machinery led him to create some unusual pieces for the farm as well as play equipment for his children. The whirling teeter-totter was, for example, a great success with the kids until it hit Tim on the head resulting in thirty stitches. The teeter-totter was pulled out the next day. The family learned not to be surprised when such things as a cherry picker, a refrigerated truck, and an earthmover showed up in the yard. Tommy was always on the lookout for something interesting to take apart and rebuild. Over the years Tommy amassed a collection of over 60 antique tractors that became his pride and joy. Tim helped to see that they were restored and painted, and each July they were displayed with patriotic flags in the grove behind the farmhouse. Tommy liked nothing better than to walk among the tractors with visitors pointing out the features of each of them. Tommy and Marigene enjoyed travelling, but were happiest when surrounded by their children and grandchildren. Picnics at the lake and waterskiing or fishing were regular pleasures for the entire family. Tommy was known throughout the county as a man who loved his family, his farm, and his friends, but would stop everything to help a stranger in need. And with Tommy, no one remained a stranger long - there was always time for a cup of coffee and a conversation.
