It looks as though Zachariah, Titus, and Armilda were actually Thomas' half-siblings rather than step-siblings. Thomas’ place of birth is given on his death record and the 1910 Census for Wapello County, Iowa, as Illinois. In the 1880 and 1885 Census records noted above, his place of birth is given as Missouri. For this memorial, I am using the place of birth given in his death record. If anyone has information confirming that Thomas was born in Missouri, please let me know. Thomas was first married to Emma May Bower on May 20, 1912, in Wapello County, Iowa. He married Hattie Gallond on August 28, 1907, in Schuyler County, Missouri. -------------------------------------------- Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” July 4, 1911: THOMAS CASON IS HEAT VICTIM HOT WEATHER RESPONSIBLE FOR DEATH OF TEAMSTER ON BLOOM ICE WAGON. The intense heat found a victim in Thomas F. Cason, a teamster for the A. Bloom Ice company, who was overcome by heat yesterday. He worked until about 7 o’clock last evening on one of the wagons of the ice company when he felt the effects of the heat too strong to bear and left for his lodgings, 225 West Main street, over the Root Marble company place of business. A physician was called and administered the usual treatment for such cases but the patient gradually grew worse and at 11 o’clock passed away. Mr. Cason was 38 years of age and has done team work for different firms in the city for some time past. He is survived by his wife and one son, Thomas, aged 3 years. The announcement of the funeral will made later. “FUNERALS,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” July 6, 1911: The funeral services over the remains of Thomas Cason, who passed away Monday evening, a victim of the intense heat, were held this afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Finley Avenue Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Lee, the pastor. Interment will be made in the Garrison Rock cemetery.
