Description	:	Following an illness of five weeks, Thomas Gannon, a resident of Plymouth county for fifty years, died at his home, 214 Plymouth Street SE, Monday evening shortly after 6 o'clock. Read More	Following an illness of five weeks, Thomas Gannon, a resident of Plymouth county for fifty years, died at his home, 214 Plymouth Street SE, Monday evening shortly after 6 o'clock. His death was due to heart trouble and complications due to old age. Mr Gannon was 79 years old. He was born in New York City August 29, 1849. His parents moved west soon after his birth and were early settlers near Aurora, IL, where Mr. Gannon attended school and grew up. He came to Plymouth county in 1875 and remained here for a year or two and then went back to Oswego, IL, returning here he continued to make his home until his death. His parents engaged in farming in Union township until they retired in Le Mars. Tom Gannon farmed and teamed for a number of years and then came to Le Mars. He was employed on the city police force for many years and was marshal during the terms of office of R.H. Kain and Mayor H.J. Linden. Later he engaged in business and conducted a feed yard and contracted for teaming and hauling. He also was engaged in various other lines, buying and selling horses and stock on small acreages near town. Tom Gannon was widely known and enjoyed a great popularity among a large number. Gifted with a kindly disposition, a keen perception of values, he was a delightful companion and friendly neighbor. He was generous to a fault and has been known to share his last dollar on an appeal for help. He helped many with his money to engage in undertakings and never refused a man the loan of a dollar with all in a quiet and unostentatious manner. Mr. Gannon had the good will and admiration of an extraordinary large number of people, both among the elder and the younger generation. He was a member of the Le Mars Lodge, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He leaves to mourn his death three sisters, Mrs. Fred Pearce, of Cumberland, WI, Mrs. John Horrigan, of Sioux City, Mrs. Hector Campbell, of Madison, SD, and a large number of nephews and nieces. Three sisters, all well known in Le Mars, preceded him in death, Mrs. Jas. Pearce, of Aurora, IL, Mrs. David Tucker, of Marshalltown, and Mrs. C.E. Clarke, of Le Mars. The funeral services were held Thursday morning at St. James church, Rev. Father L.J. Cooper officiating and were largely attended. The pallbearers were F.J. Smith, John Cooper, Jas. Russell, John Quinn, F.K. Veale, of this city, and Dan Collins, of Wakonda, SD. Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. H. Campbell and son, Albert, of Madison, SD; Mrs. J.W. Holland, St. Paul, MN; Mrs. Roy Croshorn ad Miss Grace Pearce, or Aurora, IL; Prof. Newton Pearce, of Iowa City; Miss Sylvia Pearce, of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. John Horrigan, Sioux City." Obituary from the "Sentinel": "Thomas Gannon, aged 79 years, 4 months and 15 days, passed away at the home of Mrs. M. Wise at 214 Plymouth street, SE at 6:45 p.m. Monday. Heart trouble was the cause of death. The funeral was held this morning at 9:30 o'clock from St. James church, Rev. L.J. Cooper officiating. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery, Wiltgen's funeral directors in charge. Mr. Gannon was born in New York on August 29, 1849, and was a resident of this city for 30 years. Years ago he worked as a hauling contractor. Deceased was not married but leaves three sisters to mourn his loss. They are: Mrs. John Horgon of Sioux City; Mrs. H.H. Campbell, Madison, SD, who attended the funeral and Mrs. Fred Pearce of Cumberland, WI, who was unable to come. Mr. Gannon was well known in this community and leaves many friends who join with the relatives in mourning his loss.
