Description	:	Tom was born to Archemidees and Verna Torbett Hensley on June 15, 1927 in Manhattan, Montana. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Tom and Elaine Hope Nelson were united in marriage on October 5, 1952 in Townsend, Montana. They have been life-long farmers in the Toston area where they raised their five children. Read More	Tom was born to Archemidees and Verna Torbett Hensley on June 15, 1927 in Manhattan, Montana. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Tom and Elaine Hope Nelson were united in marriage on October 5, 1952 in Townsend, Montana. They have been life-long farmers in the Toston area where they raised their five children. He served as a Broadwater County Commissioner for 18 years. He also served on the Crow Creek School Board and Rocky Mountain Supply Board of Directors. With brothers George and Robert, they farmed what is known as the Toston flats when the Toston dam was built and the land was put under irrigation. As an advocate of irrigation, he developed the first irrigation well in Broadwater County in the early 1950s and went on to develop other land in the valley. He also obtained a private pilot's license and had his own plane. His hobby was farming and visiting with neighborhood farmers. His brothers Torbett, Woodrow, Joe, and George Hensley and one sister Margaret Poe preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Elaine of Toston, son Howard & Judy of Toston, four daughters, Dee Ellen & Chuck Toy of Omaha, NE, Diann & Michael Ferrat of Toston, Velda & Randy Staley Welch of Medford, OR, and Roene Stewart of Lewisville, TX. He is also survived by his brother Robert & Gudrun Hensley, sister Louise & Jerry Determan of Boise, ID, sister-in-law's Edna and June B. Hensley both of Townsend, 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Townsend Ward. Graveside committal will follow at Radersburg Cemetery. Family prefers that in lieu of flowers memorials be given to American Diabetes Association, 3203 3rd Avenue North, Suite 203, Billings, MT 59101 or Alzheimer's Association. Connors Funeral Home assisted the family with the services.
