Mr. Walton of Epworth had charge of the services. Burial was made in the cemetery at Silver Creek. Thomas Henry Carrothers, son of C. W. and Anna Carrothers, was born in Prairie township, Delaware county, Iowa, May 13, 1874, and passed away in Denver, Colo. June 24, 1936, at the age of 62 years, 1 month and 24 days. He was the seventh in a family of eight children, of whom six grew to maturity; a brother and sister passing away in infancy. The eldest sister, Elizabeth Graham, departed this life Aug. 30, 1934. Those of the immediate family remaining to mourn his passing are: Mrs. W. J. Anderson, of Ida Grove, Ia.; James J. of Fayetteville, Ark.; Wm. L. of Grand Junction, Ia.; and George W. of Milwaukee, Wis.; also six nephews--Chester, Ronald and Wilson Carrothers, Wm. J. Anderson jr., Wesley and Leonard Graham; also by a host of other relatives and friends. His youth and early manhood were passed happily in the farm home, from which he attended the rural school, later attending Upper Iowa university at Fayette, and Drake university in Des Moines. Mr. Carrothers was converted early in life and united with the Methodist church at Silver Creek, and remained a faithful adherent of that denomination, living a consistent Christian life. His was a deep religious experience, professing a complete change of heart, and lived it unblemished before the world. After completing his school work he continued farming in partnership with brother, Wm. L., on the old home farm. After Mr. Carrothers had taken a course in animal husbandry at the Iowa State college, Ames, they became widely known for their feeding operations and in the breeding of registered cattle and horses. He took an active part in the farm organizations of Delaware county, as secretary of the Corn Belt Meat Producers association, secretary and later president of the Farmers' institute, and for two years president of the Farmers' Short course, under the extension department of the Iowa State college. After leaving the farm in 1921, by diligent study and observation, he became an expert judge of live stock and for some time engaged in live stock commission business in Kansas City, Mo. Later he became associated with the Tarkio Feed company of that city, and went on the road as salesman, working for years in southwestern Iowa. During this time his health had been failing somewhat and his visibility became impaired. Thinking a change of climate would prove beneficial he went on vacation in Colorado. In better spirits and under the urge of the Feed company, he soon was in the work again, and by the end of last year he was acclaimed and received a prize as the highest rating salesman in the organization. He was an ambitious preserving salesman up to and including the last day of his life. It can be truthfully said of him, "he died in the harness." He was loved and esteemed by his associates; trusted by his patrons; respected and honored by his employers. He was a man of sterling uprightness of character; unquestioned integrity, a true and dependable friend, a loving and loveable brother. His memory will grow richer and remain longest with those who know him most intimately.
