Read More	DEATH CLAIMS FORMER CITIZEN Thomas Holdsworth Died Last Thursday in Keokuk Was Nearly 87 Years Of Age And Live in This Community Many Years - Funeral Held Here Sunday Thomas Holdsworth, a former well known resident of this vicinity, passed away last Thursday in a hospital at Keokuk, Iowa, following a paralytic stroke which he suffered recently while visiting at the home of his brother, Julis Holdsworth, in Keokuk. Accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Inez Mead of Chicago, the body was brought to Hawarden Sunday and funeral services were held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church in this city, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Robt. H. Forrester. Miss Lola Lamb sang a beautiful solo as a part of the funeral service, Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery in a grave beside that of his wife. Thomas Holdsworth was born in Barrie, Ontario, Canada in 1843, so was in his 87th year at the time of his death. He grew to young manhood in Canada and in his youth served as an apprentice and learned the printers trade in the office of the Barrie Advance. He left Canada in 1865 and located in Ohio. Working in the timber there he became an expert woodsman. He married in Ohio and one daughter Mrs. Inez Mead of Chicago, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Holdsworth. About 1887 he moved to South Dakota and for twenty years operated a farm in Virginia township, Union county, a few miles west of Hawarden. In 1888 he married secondly Mrs. Nancy Williams. About 1907 they moved to Oakland, Neb., where they resided until Mrs. Holdsworth death on Aug. 11, 1920. Since then he has made his home with his step-son George Williams at Burke, S. D., and with his daughter in Chicago. In 1923 he paid a visit to his boyhood home in Barrie, Ontario, after an absence of 58 years and he also paid occasional visits to Hawarden during recent years. Mr. Holdsworth was a splendid type of true gentleman, always courteous toward everyone, and his kindly traits of character won and held for him many fast friends.
