Description	:	Thomas Kirby Jr. born November 22, 1926 to Tom and Emma Kirby in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He attended Cathedral Grade School and was graduated from Washington High School in 1944. Tom enlisted in the Navy where he served in World War II as a Radioman, 3rd class, on the aircraft carrier U.S.S., Rendova. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, Tom then attended the University of Notre Dame and subsequently transferred to the University of South Dakota where he received his business and law degrees, graduating in 1951. On June 2, 1951, Tom married Marjorie D. Lyng in Sioux Falls. Tom first began work at the Kirby Law Office and Western Surety Bonding Company in 1951. During Tom's career, he served as General Counsel and Secretary for Western Surety. Tom retired in 1986. Tom and his wife Marj's adventurous life was blessed by the addition of five children. In his spare time, Tom was an avid hunter, fisherman, pilot and golfer. He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church and was a member of the Minnehaha County and State Bar Associations. Tom was also involved with a number of community and civic associations, which include the University of South Dakota Foundation and the Sioux Falls Regional Airport Authority. Tom is survived by his wife Marj, two daughters: Lynn (Todd) Jones, Deadwood; Kathleen (Curtis) Eide, Deadwood; three sons: Steven (Suzette) Sioux Falls, James (Pamela) Deadwood; Brian (Lisa) Sioux Falls, two sisters; Margaret McDonnell, Sioux Falls, Whiffer Randall, Sioux Falls, nine grandchildren: Jon, Kelly, Katherine Kirby; Ian and Jenna Jones; Kirby and Michael Eide and Kelsey and Emma Kirby. His parents Tom and Emma Kirby and his sister Mary Rohn preceded Tom in death. Loving gratitude to all who helped through the last few years of Tom's life. Tom's family thanks you for your support and presence today. An invitation is extended to join them at the Minnehaha Country Club for refreshments and fellowship following the committal service.
