Thomas married Sarah E. Mason, a Civil War widow, 11 Dec 1865 in Anderson County, Kansas. They are listed in several census reports together. After Sarah's death, Thomas was listed with wife Julia in 1910 in Ottawa, Franklin, Kansas. Julia received a Civil War widow's pension in April of 1921. Family information from Ancestry.com lists the death of Thomas J. Rumbley at the hospital in Osawatomie in 1915. Julia was listed alone in a 1913 Ottawa city directory and also in the 1815 Kansas state census in Ottawa. She was listed as a widow, age 78, in the 1920 census in Ottawa. C. E. Rumbley is listed as a Civil War veteran buried in the Colony Cemetery in an unmarked grave. (unmarked graves of veterans list compiled in 1983 in Anderson County) However, no records for a C. E. Rumbley who served in the Civl War have been found. Charles E. Rumbley was a son of Thomas J. Rumbley and is buried in Neosho County, Kansas. Most likely it is Thomas J. Rumbley who is buried here and C. E. Rumbley who purchased the cemetery lot.
