Collins Gazette Obituary dated October 14, 1915 Thomas Jefferson Morrison was born in Indiana on Oct. 9, 1847, and passed away at his home in Collins on Oct. 10, 1915, at the age of 68 years and one day. He was married to Annie Strickler Oct. 16, 1867. To them was born six children, Viola A., who died in infancy, Mrs. D.E.Carver, William Morrison, Tilghman H., Thomas J. jrl, all of Collins and Mrs. J.T.Hall of Colfax. Besides these he leaves one sister, Mrs. S. Gibson of Maxwell, eleven grand children and one great grand-child. Mr. Morrison came to Iowa in 1850 when but three years old, and lived on the home farm here until fifteen years ago, when he moved to Collins, where he resided till his death. He was ever a kind and affectionate husband and father, happiest when all the family were about him. As a citizen he was honored and respected by all. In all his suffering he was calm and resined and passed peacefully away has he had peacefully lived. We bid him farewell until that great day of meeting when the final reunion comes. The above obituary was read by Rev. A.V. Hart at the funeral in the Christian Church Tuesday afternoon. The church was filled with sympathizing friends, who mourned with the relatives the death of a pioneer and esteemed citizen. Many of those present were old neighbors of deceased, who came to pay their respects to his worth. Rev. Hart preached a comforting and smpathetic sermon that was appreciated by the mourners and all the congregation. The floral tributes were beautiful. The choir was Mrs. Kirk and Mrs. Wm.Carver, sopranos; Mrs. Burch and Miss Pearl Carver, altos; J.G. Gingles and C.F. Cooper, tenor; Prof. Kirk and Dr. Robertson, bass; Mrs. Etta Patterson, accompanist. The selections were beautifully sung. Among them were "In the Upper Garden." The pallbearers were G.W.Baldwin, J.E.Hale, G.F.Holland, W.A.Ozmun, L.D.Shearer and C.G.Vasey. The interment was at the Ashton cemetery. This community gives heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones in their sorrow. The following relatives and friends from a distance were at the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Hall of Colfax; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cross, Mrs. Geo. Berkshire and Mrs. Elmer Kendig of Colfax; Mrs. Anna Shephard and Miss Mary Tripp of Des Moines; Mrs. Same Gibson of Maxwell; Mrs. L. Mathas of Marion; Mr. and Mrs. James Strickler of Rhodes; Mr. and Mrs. Art Southern and Mrs. Mary Southern of Mingo; Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Jones and sons Frank and Zenis of Ira.
