He passed on in Lincoln on Friday, August 28, 1992 following a long illness. Rosary services were Tuesday at 8 p.m. and funeral services were Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. both at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Mr. Collins was born Sept. 30, 1908 at Lawrence. He married Norma Jean Willett in August 1935. She died March 8, 1979. He retired from the Hastings Tribune as an area subscription salesman in 1977 and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors are: one son: Patrick of Longmont, Colo.; two daughters: Nancy Jacobs and Sharon Bauer, both of Lincoln; one sister, Evalyne Collins of Rochester, Minn.; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Collins. Rev. Valerian Bartek offered the Mass of the Resurrection. Sister Micaela, niece, read the petitions. Jeff Randolph great nephew was lector, Tom Dolnicek, soloist & leader of the congregational singing was accompanied by Linda Ostdiek. Interment was made in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lawrence, Ne. Casket bearers were grandsons, Sean Bauer and Gabriel Jacobs; nephews, James Randolph and Mike Randolph; cousin Ed Hinz and brother-in-law Sam Willett Jr. Tom Collins, better known to his family and many friends as "Tick" was born September 30, 1908 on the family farm east of Lawrence. He was united in marriage to Norma (Wonnie) Willett August 3, 1935 at St. Francis Chapel, Lincoln, Ne. To this union three children were born: Patrick, Sharon and Nancy. Tom farmed one mile south of the farm on which he was born and reared. In late 1943 the family moved to town to make their home in the parental Yunker house, the grandparents of Mr. Collins. Continuing to farm, Mr. Collins also pursued a career as a successful and friendly salesman first selling Insurance & Magazines and in 1952 became an employee of the Hastings Daily Tribune. During that time he became a well liked and familiar face to many over a large circulation area in the southeast corner of Nebraska. He retired as circulation manager in October 1977. Tom was baptized November 22, 1908 at Sacred Heart Church. He remained a devout and supportive member throughout his lifetime. He received his formal education at the rural school, District 57, close enough to his home to be called the "Collins" school. He also attended Sacred Heart school and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1927. Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Volunteer Fire Dept., Lawrence County Club where he was an avid and enthusastic (sic) golfer. He also enjoyed many afternoons playing pitch with "the boys". He suffered a stroke September 14, 1989 and spent his remaining years on this earth living among his children and grandchildren, continued to be a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He occasionally returned home with his loving sister Evalyne. In April 1992 he was stricken with cancer and died at the home of his daughter Nancy Jacobs, Lincoln, Ne. on August 28, 1992 at 11:42 p.m. at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 28 days. He was the 5th child of Thomas and Anna (Yunker) Collins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wonnie, in 1979, his mother and father; his brothers Joe and Carol (Cotts) Collins and his sister Georgina RAndolph (sic). Tom Collins was a honest man, a gentle man and a kind man. Left to mourn him and thanking God for the privilege and honor to have had him for a father, grandfather and brother and to have had the unique opportunity to care for him in his final years are his sister Evalyne M. Collins, Rochester, Minn.; a son and daughter-in-law Patrick & Lenora Collins of Longmont, CO.; granddaughters Shelly Collins Maloy, Stacey Collins Landwehr, Cathy Collins & Kelley Collins; Daughter and son-in-law Sharon & Marvin Bauer, granddaughter Angela Bauer and grandson Sean Patrick Bauer; daughter and son-in-law Nancy & Larry Jacobs, granddaughters Shannon Jacobs, Michaela Jacobs and grandson Gabriel Jacobs and one great grandchildren Spencer Elizabeth Collins Maloy; Brothers-in-law, Sisters-in-law, cousins & nieces & nephews, to whose lives he brought much joy and love.
