He was born January 1, 1945, at Mount Pleasant, the son of Robert E. and Thelma (Hodson) Bell. He married Jo Ann Sheils on June 5, 1966. Tom was a 1963 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He worked the Rural Electric Cooperative (REC) of Mount Pleasant for 25 years and also worked at Shop Services of Mount Pleasant until it closed. He was a motorcycle buff. Survivors included his daughter Tracy Bell of Ottumwa, his son Travis Bell of Ottumwa, his sister Kay Wesely of Salem, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held on July 12th at the Beatty Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Palmer officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Creek Cemetery. A memorial was established for the American Diabetes Research Association.
