Description	:	Robert Earl Bell, 79, of Salem, died Monday, August 12, 1996, at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Born May 23, 1917, in New London, he was the son of Joseph A. and Mable M. (Beer) Bell. He married Thelma Hodson July 17, 1944, in El Paso, Texas. She died April 17, 1993. He was a 1936 graduate of Salem High School and was a member of Salem Friends Church and Simkin Pigeon American Legion Post 94 for many years. Read More	Robert Earl Bell, 79, of Salem, died Monday, August 12, 1996, at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Born May 23, 1917, in New London, he was the son of Joseph A. and Mable M. (Beer) Bell. He married Thelma Hodson July 17, 1944, in El Paso, Texas. She died April 17, 1993. He was a 1936 graduate of Salem High School and was a member of Salem Friends Church and Simkin Pigeon American Legion Post 94 for many years. He served in the Army from 1941 until 1946 and in the Air Force in Korea from 1951 to 1952. Mr. Bell was a fire chief in Salem and owned and operated Bob's 66 Station. He worked for REC of Mount Pleasant, retiring in 1979. Survivors include one daughter, Kay Wesely of Salem; one son, Thomas, of Mount Pleasant; his twin sister, Ruth Harshbarger of Salem; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. The funeral for Mr. Bell was held on August 15th at the Salem Friends Church with Rev. Tom Palmer officiating. Burial with full military rites was in the Cedar Creek Cemetery.
